I replaced it with a Fender passive Jazz V and I prefer the Fender USA Jazz V. Not that the Peavey was bad at all, mind you! It sounded, played, and had build quality easily equal to the Fender, it's just that after 10 years I decided that the more traditional passive J bass was more my style. Mar 21, 2007 #13. Yes. On a slightly more serious note: Get the passive one. And get a real bass amp. Playing bass through a guitar amp is a great way to wreck a guitar amp. 4. warwickben β€’ 1 yr. ago. You have active pickups and active preamp . You can have a passsive tone with active pickups and passive pickups with a active preamp. 3.
Passive basses are more plug n play as you can leave them plugged in and there's less that go wrong with them. Cons: inability to shape your EQ on your bass so you either use an EQ pedal or adjust it on your amp. I used to be huge into active basses but lately I've enjoyed the simple and classic nature of a good ol passive P bass.
The rule of thumb is active bass, passive DI and vice versa. Feel free to break that rule since both work just fine. +1, mostly used if you have an amp and want to feed a signal to FOH. IMHO, it will lack a bit compared to the sound you are used to get from an amp. Huw Phillips likes this.
There are two types of DI boxes that you can buy, an active DI box and a passive DI box. Similar to how microphones work, you can pick the type of DI box depending on whether the incoming signal is active or passive. If you’re recording something like dynamic microphones, keyboards, or an active bass guitar, a passive DI box will be perfect
No, not really. Most "active" basses have passive pickups, anyway. So, the only real difference is that you have two preamps in your signal path rather than one, if you choose to use a preamp pedal with an active bass. Theoretically, this raises the noise floor a little bit, but it's not an issue in most cases.
2. active can have more highs & be more quiet. less windings on the coil mean it can achieve higher frequency output & at the same time less noise is induced by less wraps. A downside of passive pickups is that the hotter you wind them the darker they get. Also, the hotter you wind them, the more likely they are to be noisy.
